Why RCM Matters

The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) examination system is Canada's most widely recognized standard for music education. RCM certificates are accepted as evidence of musical achievement by Canadian universities, conservatories, and music schools, and the RCM Theory co-requisites form a strong academic foundation.

Our exam preparation covers all components: repertoire, technique (scales, chords, arpeggios), ear training, sight reading, and music theory. Students are prepared for RCM practical and theory examinations from Preparatory through Grade 8 at our studio.

Progression

RCM Exam Pathway

A structured progression through three tiers of musical development.

Preparatory

Ages 5-7

An introduction to the RCM framework. Builds reading, rhythm, and basic technique through short pieces and simple technical exercises. No theory co-requisite.

1-4

Elementary

Grades 1 - 4

Foundational repertoire, technical requirements (scales, chords, arpeggios), ear training, and sight reading. Theory co-requisite begins at Grade 5 preparation level.

5-8

Intermediate

Grades 5 - 8

Advanced repertoire and technique. Theory co-requisites required for certificate. Pathway to ARCT and conservatory-level study.

RCM First Class Honour Roll

Listed as teacher, Elementary Level, BC & Yukon (December 2024 - May 2025)

The RCM First Class Honour Roll recognizes students who achieve First Class Honours or First Class Honours with Distinction on their certificate examinations. Being listed as a teacher on this roll is recognition that students from Siran Music Academy are performing at the highest standard in BC and the Yukon.
