About the Academy
Meet Siranoush Akhgarandouz
A lifetime of musical passion, 21+ years of dedicated teaching, and a commitment to helping every student reach their potential.
Music has shaped Siranoush’s life since childhood, and teaching has shaped it ever since. For more than twenty-one years she has guided students from their very first scales through advanced repertoire, watching quiet beginners turn into confident performers. That long view is what gives the studio its character: every lesson is part of a longer story.
She founded Siran Music Academy in North Vancouver to bring that same patient, rigorous tradition to families on the North Shore. The academy offers private piano, flute recorder, kids music based on the Carl Orff approach, theory, sight-reading, and exam preparation for both the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) and ABRSM. Lessons run in English and Farsi, in person and online.
How she teaches
Siranoush’s method is built around two beliefs: that strong technique should never come at the cost of musical joy, and that every student learns differently. Children begin with games, listening, and tactile play before they touch the keys with intention. Older students work through carefully graded RCM and ABRSM material, with regular performance opportunities to build stage confidence. Bilingual students get instruction in the language they think in, which is often the difference between memorising a concept and actually owning it.
To stay current she attends RCM webinars regularly and is active in BCRMTA, CFMTA, and the Iran Music House. Her own training spans a Bachelor’s degree in Music Pedagogy, a Diploma in Music and Musical Instruments of the World (Piano), and a Master’s degree in English Language and Literature, which she draws on every time she works with a young reader on lyrics, programme notes, or a Farsi-to-English translation of a musical term.
What students have done
More than 58 of Siranoush’s students have completed internationally recognised examinations, and many have placed in BCRMTA and North Shore Music Festival competitions. The studio appeared on the RCM First Class Honour Roll for British Columbia and Yukon (December 2024 to May 2025), with students earning First Class Honours at Preparatory and Level 4. Three Siran students competed at the 2026 North Shore Music Festival, including a Class CG4 trophy winner.
